Independence Day was really interesting considering over half the population of this so called "great country" has less rights than they did last year. So to start everyone's weekend, I wrote a big chalk message in a downtown parking lot as a reminder of what just happened. Did I watch shit blow up and get drunk though? OF COURSE I DID! Numb the pain am I right?
All jokes aside, there was something my lovely boyfriend brought to my attention. (Who by the way has been extremely supportive in this movement). And it made me rethink how far this movement can go.
"This county is ridiculous, but as someone who was adopted from a country trying to take over other ones and causing mass destruction, I would rather be here."
Which is a very good point. There is a lot of horrendous things happening around the globe that we can't ignore. Not just with issues similar to Roe v. Wade; but with how people are treated in general.
My dear fighters- we have a much larger opportunity to inflict change here than others do. We shouldn't just stop with fighting for our own rights in the USA, we need to extend our empathy and strength to our comrades around the world. Some are not as well off as we are. Some are and we ask you to take your strength and share it as well. Even a simple chalk message is doing something. Don't just stand by.
This is more than the physical fight. The emotional and spiritual strength and connection is just as important. Stand together and KNOW that we can achieve what we want.
So make a statement, continue to share your stories, make noise about HUMAN RIGHTS!
As I watched the last few fireworks go off last weekend I took the opportunity to scream "Fuck this country, blow shit up!"
So do it (not literally please). Be mad. Be angry, be loud, strong, bright and vibrant. Grab attention.
Blow up like those damn fireworks.
Rebel on.
